The under 9s Played 3, Won 2, Lost 1

Thomas Bradbury (c), Chirag Guha, Akash Nannapanneni, Steffan Munn and Yuvraj Singh batted first in all three games

Game 1: Lisvane Griffins 274, Vale Vipers 228, Won by 46 runs

Game 2: Lisvane Griffins 209, Whitchurch Heath, 230, Lost by 21 runs

Game 3: Lisvane Griffins 250, Radyr B 194, Won by 56 runs

All these boys played well, they can all hit boundaries, we have a good mix of right and left handed batsmen to fox the bowlers and the calling and running between the wickets had our opponents withering. Well done boys

Week 1 Junior Results

Posted by on Apr 30, 2013 in News, Youth | 0 comments

The first week of junior cricket this season saw all of our Griffins teams in action.

U11 Griffins beat Whitchurch Heath by 105 runs

All pairs contributed with the bat and the quality of fielding was a notable point with 2 run outs and taking 7 wickets in total.

U13 Griffins (89 for 9) beat Cardiff B (88 for 1)

First match of the season saw U13 Griffins winning the toss and batting first against what was likely to be tough opposition. In spite being 5 down at halfway Will Youngs (16 no) held the tail together to reach a total of 89 for the loss of 9 wickets from our 20 overs. In reply Cardiff batted conservatively thanks to tight bowling from everyone and quickly fell behind the required run rate to leave them requiring a run a ball off the last 4 overs and eventually two to win off the last two balls. In the gathering dark, two dot balls saw the Griffins home and the on-field celebrations commenced.

U15 Griffins (69-6) lost to Radyr Golds (94-7) (18 overs per side)

A good performance all round saw the U15s go down chasing a challenging total in gathering gloom against a strong Radyr team. Individual perfromances of note were James Chubb (38 retd.) and William Clarke (3-0-10-2), but the conditions were probably the victors in the end.

Cricket Force v The Cold

Posted by on Mar 24, 2013 in News | 0 comments

An army of LCC Cricket Forcers beat the cold by a knockout yesterday.  Job accomplished by the hardy volunteers included:

  • sightscreens painted;
  • new fence and gate behind Clubhouse;
  • new aerial erected;
  • benches painted;
  • more memorabilia mounted in Club House;
  • changing rooms painted;
  • scoreboard door repaired;
  • Griffins painted.

The troops were fed royally with smokey bacon baps and cake and some of our brave youngsters even had a net!

Some jobs were not possible due to the wet conditions, so please watch this space for details of more opportunities to lend a hand and get the best looking ground in Cardiff ship-shape for the coming season.  We are particularly looking for volunteer gardeners and, in particular, someone to prepare and tend decorative flower pots around the patio.

Ground Force Day – Saturday 23 March

Posted by on Mar 13, 2013 in News | 0 comments

Ground Force Day is Saturday 23 March

All players, young and old, parents and other club supporters are asked to get ready for a fun day of activities down at the ground. The day starts at about 9:30am and we’ll be attending to all corners, inside the pavilion and out.

We’ve identified the perimeter fence as a particular area for activity, but if you like working on the idyllic New England garden picket fence as a warm-up activity that will need improving too. Attention will be paid to garden areas, patios and general cleaning as usual.

Please bring paintbrushes, gardening tools, old clothes to wear and a smile. To keep the fun bubbling we’ll be offering free refreshments by way of hot drinks, bacon rolls and burgers. Well, we wondered what happened to the horses that used to run across the outfield last winter?
